Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony – July 2023
To mark the commencement of preliminary works for the Port Dock Railway Line Project and as a mark of respect to the Traditional Owners of the land on which the project will be constructed, we held a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony on Monday, 31 July 2023.
The event, led by Rosalind Coleman, respected Kaurna Elder, explained the importance of Kaurna heritage and her deep connection to the Port Adelaide and Rosewater areas.
Having grown up in Rosewater, Rosalind spoke of her personal and family ties to the area. Together with her two sons, Daniel Coleman on the Didgeridoo and Caleb Coleman who carried the traditional Coolamon with burning native plants, the family cleansed the area immediately surrounding the project site.
We thank Rosalind and her family for their guidance and support of the project.
