Innovative precast concrete walls used on the Torrens Road bridge

Thu, 07 April, 2022

The Ovingham Level Crossing Removal Project is using a concrete methodology that has never been used before in Australian bridge construction.

Ramp walls will be created from ‘Techwall’ panels – a retaining wall system consisting of full-height concrete units that are secured to a cast-in-place footing.

The Torrens Road bridge will have 29 Techwall units installed along the eastern ramp, compared with 181 smaller precast panels that comprise the western ramp – enabling a faster overall ramp build.

Techwalls are widely used overseas in America and Europe, so the project engineers are excited for this method to now be used in Australia.
