Arrival of the shared pedestrian and cyclist bridge
The bridge arrived at site on Monday 8 October and the project has commenced the assembling works, ready for lifting into position in early November 2018. The project aims to open the bridge for public use in December 2018.
The bridge was constructed off-site by SA family business Bowhill Engineering, who are also constructing the canopy for the new station.
The entire structure is 3.8 metres in width and 17.4 metres long, with a 3 metre wide aggregate concrete deck. The bridge weighs a total of 65 tonnes, compromising of: steel, cladding, concrete and 3.5 metre high perforated aluminium throw screens.
The bridge will sit 5.4 metres above the rail line to provide pedestrian and cyclist access across the new underpass, at the eastern end of the station.
