Project Overview

The Brighton Road, Hove Level Crossing Removal Planning Study is jointly funded by the Australian and State Governments and has been identified as a priority location for treatments that address road congestion and keep traffic flowing.

The Hove Level Crossing is located approximately 12km southwest of the Adelaide CBD on the Seaford railway line on Brighton Road, between Sturt Road and Oaklands Road. Brighton Road crosses two Adelaide to Seaford passenger rail lines.

An average of 37,000 vehicles travel through this level crossing each day.

Removal of the level crossing, separating the rail line from the road, will lead to improved:

  • travel times for motorists
  • reliability for buses using Brighton Road
  • increased freight productivity
  • safety for all road users (motorists, cyclists and pedestrians) by removing a road-rail crossing point

The Public Transport Projects Alliance was engaged to undertake the Hove Level Crossing Removal Planning Study and community engagement is an important part of the planning phase. During the planning study extensive consultation with landowners, businesses, residents, local community groups, public transport users, and road users helped identify key community issues and concerns.

The planning study consulted with businesses and residents located near the level crossing to seek their feedback on the level crossing removal. PTPA also held community information sessions in the local area, providing opportunities to the wider community to meet the project team and ask questions about the project.

Thank you to everyone that attended our community information sessions in November 2019 at Hove Railway Station and Brighton Central Shopping Centre, we really appreciate the valuable feedback you all provided.
